A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, remanded one Godwin Jeremiah in police custody for alleged theft of N4 million and items worth N2 million.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, remanded Jeremiah of Kado Kuchi village, Gwarinpa, Abuja, who is charged with `theft by servant’ and adjourned the case till June 4 for consideration of bail application. Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Mohammed Garba, told the court that
one Mr Linus Awute, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on May 26.
He said that the accused, being a house boy to the complainant, stole the complainant’s two golden wrist watches, shoes, bangles and clothes all valued at N2 million.
He added that the accused also stole some US dollars and cash in naira amounting to N4 million. Garba said that the accused stole the said items between 2011 to 2013. He further said that during police investigations, the accused admitted to have stolen N1 million only, which he used to purchase a Toyota Corolla car. Garba said the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code. The accused pleaded not guilty.
